06/21/2008 | Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park hosted a free showing of John Wayne's most famous movie, True Grit, as Johnson family friends and neighbors did in the late 1960s. This was the first opportunity for the public to relive the excitement of seeing a classic motion picture under the starry skies above the ranch, a stone's throw away from the Texas White House. True Grit was one of the many movies shown in the Johnson airplane hangar, where the First Family gathered with people from the local communities to enjoy a night of free entertainment. |

05/17/2008 | On Saturday, May 17, Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and the Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park teamed up to create an authentic 1967 barbecue on the banks of the Pedernales River just as President and Mrs. Johnson did during the presidential years on the LBJ Ranch. This special event included a social hour of music, exhibits, food and drinks as guests were welcomed by “President Johnson,” portrayed by actor Michael Stuart. A 1967 Lincoln convertible was available for photo opportunities and a ride around the ranch. The Fort Griffin Fandangle took the stage with Texas’ oldest outdoor musical, based on the pioneer chronicles of West Texas. This spectacle was presented at the original 1967 barbecue hosted by the Johnsons to honor members of the Organization of American States. | [View Photos...] |
